Tentergate WR Yorkshire Lewis Topographical Dictionary of England 1845

TENTERGATE, with Scriven, a township, in the parish of Knaresborough, Lower division of the wapentake of claro, W. riding of York; containing 1435 inhabitants. The township comprises about 1598 acres, and Tentergate forms that part of the borough of Knaresborough usually called Bond-End; it is chiefly the property of Sir Charles Slingsby, Bart.

Temple Newsom W R Yorkshire Lewis Topographical Dictionary of England 1845

TEMPLE-NEWSOM, a township, in the parish of Whitkirk, Lower division of the wapentake of Sky-rack, W. riding of York, 4 miles (E. by S.) from Leeds; containing 1428 inhabitants. This place derives the prefix to its name from the Knights Templars, who had a preceptory here, which, at the suppression of their order in 1311, was granted by Edward III. to Sir John D’Arcy, whose descendant, Thomas, Lord D’Arcy, was beheaded in the reign of Henry VIII. for joining the “Pilgrims of Grace.”

Tanshelf W R Yorkshire Lewis Topographical Dictionary of England 1845

TANSHELF, a township, in the parish of Pontefract, Upper division of the wapentake of Osgoldcross, W. riding of York, ¼ of a mile (W. by S.) from Pontefract; containing 502 inhabitants. This township, which adjoins the end of the town of Pontefract, comprises about 275 acres, and consists chiefly of neat houses and villas, occupied by families connected with the borough, to which it forms a pleasing appendage.

Allerton Mauleverer Baines History Directory and Gazetteer of the County of York 1822

Allerton-Mauleverer, (P.) in the wap. of Claro, 5 miles E. of Knaresborough, for many ages the seat of a family of that name; it was purchased of Viscount Galway by the Duke of York, in the year 1786, who sold it to Col. Thornton, in the year 1789, by whom it was sold to Lord Stourton, in 1805, and it is at present possessed and occupied by his Lordship. At this place was formerly a priory of Benedictines, founded by Richard Mauleverer, in the reign of Henry II. but the convent was dissolved in the reign of Henry VI. and its revenues settled on King’s College, Cambridge. Pop. 276.
