Twining Marriages General Information

Marriages at Twining 1674 to 1812

Note. – The Register of the Parish of Twining or Twyning, in the County of Gloucester, is contained in three volumes.

Volume I contains :- Baptisms, 1648 to 1775; Marriages, February 4, 1674 to June 20, 1765; Burials, 1656 to 1775. It is written on vellum (with two pages of paper containing a list of briefs from 1682 to 1706). The Baptisms begin on the first page. The Burials begin at the other end of the book, but throughout the entries are much confused. The part from 1724 to 1748 is loose from the cover, and apparently was never bound up with the rest. The covers measure 13 ½ in. by 7 ½ in.; the leaves of the book originally were 13 ½ in. by 6 ¼ in. The part which has been inserted loose measures 13 ½ in. by 7 ½ in. There seem to be no erasures, and no part missing.

Volume II is the printed official form containing the Register of Banns and Marriages. The Banns commence in 1770; the Marriages begin in 1762, and go on till 1778, numbered from 1 to 94, on 24 pages. It is bound in vellum, 15 in. by 9 ¼ in.

Volume III, of similar character, contains the Marriages from 1778 to 1812.

These extracts have been made by the Rev. E. R. Dowdeswell and Mr. J. W. Rusling, and are now printed by leave of the Rev. W. Wordsworth Hoyland, Curate-in-charge of Twining.
