Neen Solars Casseys Shropshire Directory 1871

Neen Solars is a parish and village, 12 miles from Ludlow, 12 ½ from Kidderminster, 9 ½ from Bewdley, and 3 from Cleobury Mortimer, in the Southern division of the county, Overs hundred, Cleobury Mortimer union, and diocese of Hereford. The church of All Saints’ is a cruciform stone structure, consisting of nave, aisle, chancel, transepts and a square tower containing 3 bells, surmounted by an octagonal shingle-wood spire. In the church is a handsome monument to Humphrey Conynsby, Esq., formerly lord of the manor, who was born in 1567. The living is a rectory, with the chapelry of Milson annexed, annual value £550, with residence and 52 acres of glebe land, in the gift of Worcester College, Oxford. A national School for the children of Neen and Milson is partially supported by Mrs. Wickstead. In this parish are several hop plantations, and also fruit orchards. Lord Northwick is Lord of the manor, and Sir Edward Blount, Bart, chief landowner. The soil is chiefly clay; Sub-soil, gravel and rock. The area is 1,916 acres, and the population in 1861 was 189: gross estimated rental, £2,114: rateable value, £1,946.
