S. W.) from Buntingford; containing 633 inhabitants. It comprises 2405a. 1r. 12p., of which 1650 acres are arable, 472 meadow and pasture, 190 woodland, and 92 common and waste. The living is a discharged vicarage, valued in the king&#8217;s books at &pound;12, and in the patronage of the Dean and Chapter of St. Paul&#8217;s, London ; impropriator, J. Murray, Esq. The <span>vicarial tithes have been commuted for &pound;180, and the im</span>propriate for &pound;350; there are 21 &frac12; acres of impropriate <span>glebe. The church is a handsome structure in the later </span><span>English style, with a square embattled tower surmounted </span>by a spire; the windows are embellished with stained glass, and the walls painted in fresco, which had been long concealed until some late repairs. Chauncy, the historian of Hertfordshire, was interred here.</p>

The church is partly Norman, but mainly decorated English, with some interpolated windows of later English; went into a ruinous condition; was restored, throughout the body, in 1866; and has a tower in still a dilapidated state.
