Aldfield, in the parish of Ripon, wap. of Claro, and liberty of Ripon: a village near Fountain’s Abbey; 4 miles SW. of Ripon. A fine spring of sulphur water was discovered here about the year 1698; the situation is delightfully romantic, surrounded by rocks, mountains, groves, and vallies, exactly resembling the admired scenery of Matlock, in Derbyshire. Population, 133.
