1903 Frederick Allen Underwood sent down for one month

Frederick Allen Underwood (36), labourer of no fixed abode was summonsed before the Worcester Police Court by the city’s Board of Guardians for deserting his wife and five children. The defendant claimed he had not been able to get work and was therefore unable to take his family out of the Worcester Workhouse. However, Mr Kilbourne Kay told him the magistrate’s were of the opinion that he could get work if he tried, and suggested he should break stones. Underwood was sent down for a month.
