1903 A Bad Boy and the Eggs

Edward Sayers (11) of 10 Dolday, Worcester, was charged with stealing four hens eggs, value 4d, the property of Frank Gillett of 6 St Swithin’s Street. The boy was seen to take the eggs from a basket in the front of the open shop window by an assistant, Edwin Kirkman, who chased him to the Cross where the boy threw the eggs away. Kirkham handed the boy over to P.C Hawker, to whom he admitted the theft. There were no previous convictions but the Chief Constable said the boy had become mixed up with a lot of bad boys. He was ordered to receive four strokes with the birch.
