The City celebrated the anniversary of the Restoration to the throne of King Charles the Second in May 1804. The morning of the anniversary was ushered in with ringing of the bells, the erecting of garlands, and a very agreeable display of oak boughs in all parts of the city. The Mayor and Corporation, accompanied by the several companies belonging thereto, with bands of music, streamers etc., went in procession, according to ancient custom, to the Cathedral where they heard divine service.
